Flow measurement in sampling loop

A specialist of automated systems manufactures complete skids for the oil & gas industry, according to customer specific requirements for sampling, analysis and mixing systems.

For a customer in the Oil & Gas industry, the company was looking for a flowmeter, especially suitable for use in limited spaces, for the measurement of crude oil.

The complete skid will be used for sampling systems, for maintaining the quality or possibly adjusting various types of crude oils. This is necessary to achieve the predetermined and desired specifications. The selection of the exact blending composition depends on limitations of the existing infrastructure, quality of the raw materials and final product specifications. 

KROHNE offers a solution for this: the KROHNE H250H VA flow meter. The meter continuously accurately measures the flow of crude oil and can be used on locations where space is limited.

In this application, the H250H flowmeter is used in a sampling loop. In this loop, the crude oil is sampled at a flow rate between 4 - 6 m3/hr.

The flowmeter will be used to read the flow, and subsequently monitoring the flow by controlling a valve or pump. The transmitter will send the signal to the PLC, the PLC then controls the sampler to determine how much and how often to sample, based on the crude oil flow in the main line.

This enables the customer to make use of a flowmeter in a small location anyway, as part of the sampling loop.  Because of the horizontal mounting option, the flowmeter can be placed in an area with limited space.  The customer can fully rely on the values of the flow measurement, as in a standard vertical installation. The process in the main line can be continuously monitored.
