Energy from renewable sources, such as from Twence's biomass power plant, where biomass is converted into green electricity. In 2018, this power plant was converted, so Twence can now also supply heat and steam from it. Three times as much renewable energy can now be produced from almost the same amount of biomass. The plant supplies 450 GWh of sustainable energy: 350 GWhth of steam and heat, comparable to the gas consumption of 27,000 households, and 100 GWhe of electricity, powering around 33,000 households.
Twence will sell part of the extra heat to Ennatuurlijk and Nouryon and other industrial parties. As such, the energy is used for cooling, heating of buildings and the process industry.
KROHNE supplied two steam flow meters to this project. These two OPTISONIC 8300 steam flow meters were used to measure steam quantities and settle subsidies, provided by the central government, to stimulate renewable energy.
Twence was keen to apply ultrasonic technology again. An ultrasonic steam flow measurement had already been deployed in phase 1 at Twence, which to date has been doing its job without maintenance. No pressure drop and a very large measuring range counted in the choice of ultrasonic.
Convincing the measurement company, which records how much steam is produced on behalf of the government, on which the subsidy is granted, was a challenge. After a joint consultation with Twence, the measuring company Fudura and the representatives of the central government and KROHNE, an approval was issued for the KROHNE ultrasonic OPTISONIC 8300 F. For application of superheated steam under strict conditions and extensive calibrations.
A certainty for Twence, a matter of course for KROHNE.
