Blending plant for edible oil

A French producer has built a plant for packaging and filling vegetable edible oils, for a capacity of 1,000 million litres a year spread over 100 different versions. They wanted to increase processing capacity compared to the old plant.

The project management was done by the customer. For technical planning, the focus was on measurement accuracy, for procurement on reducing suppliers and costs, and for production on service and user-friendliness of the instrumentation. The measuring instrumentation had to comply with food standards(EC1935 / 2004).

The customer's attention was drawn to a simple and affordable KROHNE level switch by third parties. KROHNE, as a total supplier, was then able to respond immediately and complete the measuring tasks for all applications and contribute its instrumentation know-how, as well as providing audits and training.

A total of 177 measuring instruments for pressure, temperature, level and flow were delivered. Important in the project were the 15 Coriolis mass flow meters for the three blending stations, in which crude oil coming from the neighbouring production plant is dosed. This allows the customer to offer a wider variety of edible oils.

KROHNE was able to stand out in the following areas:

• Pre-sales services (design, consultancy, project coordination) and customer service (installation control, commissioning and training)

• As a full-service provider, supply all instrumentation from a single source

• Good price/performance ratio

By dosing the oils, the customer could achieve his accuracy targets, minimising and controlling the consumption of oils and energy in the process, and also benefits from the service and training, with which he can now monitor the performance of the equipment himself.
