Analysis sensors make transmitters obsolete!

The first SMARTPAT series of digital 2-wired powered analysis sensors with integrated transmitter technology was introduced in 2013. The SMARTPAT sensor can be connected directly to the process control system via 4...20mA/HART 7 interface. This offers advantages in both handling costs and purchase costs of a measurement point. Transmitters are thus no longer needed. The sensors can be calibrated offline via PACTware FDT/DTM or with a HART handheld device.

Each SMARTPAT analysis sensor is designed specifically for its environment or application. It comes with the necessary approvals and certifications for installation in explosion-proof environments in the chemical industry to hygienic environments.  With the sensor family, KROHNE offers a wide portfolio of accessories, including indicators, USB interface cable, junction box, standard solutions, sensor cables and mounting assemblies.

Due to influences of medium, temperature, humidity, environmental conditions or contamination, analysis sensors lose their accuracy and must then be calibrated, cleaned, regenerated and eventually replaced. Until now, most analysis sensors in the field use analog technology and must be calibrated on site using a transmitter, even if the measurement points are installed at long distances or in hard-to-reach locations. These are not ideal conditions for a calibration, this can result in a calibration with inaccurate readings.

SMARTPAT offers a safe alternative: all SMARTPAT sensors are digital sensors and can be (re)calibrated off-line in a laboratory under controlled conditions. The sensors store the calibration data and can be reinserted into the installation. For off-line calibration, the sensor can be connected directly to a PC with the same PACTware (FDT/DTM) as applied in the asset management system, via a USB interface cable for bi-directional HART 7 communication and power supply.

SMARTPAT can be used in chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries as well as in energy water and wastewater applications.

Highlights:

  • 2-wired powered analysis sensors with integrated transmitter technology

  • Direct connection of sensors to the process control system via 4 ...20 mA/HART

  • Installation in hazardous areas (zone 0) as well as in hygienic environments

  • Configuration and offline calibration via PACTware (FDT/DTM) or HART DD

Application example :

A company with a production site for textile materials, discharges industrial wastewater to its own wastewater treatment plant. There it is treated an then transferred to the municipal sewage treatment plant. PH measurement provides the solution.

Application example:

A wastewater treatment plant receives municipal wastewater. After a mechanical cleaning process, the water flows through two aeroation basins into a combined basin with integrated final treatment. SMARTPAT digital Redox sensor with integrated transmitter offers possibilities.
